Frequently Asked Questions

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

You can manage and cancel your subscription directly through your Apple ID account settings in the App Store, or through the app itself. Subscriptions can be canceled at any time, and you'll continue to have access until the end of your current billing period.

Does the app work offline?

Monthly and Annual subscriptions require an internet connection to verify your subscription status and initial setup, but for the most part, the app works offline once your subscription has been verified.

Is License to Sail affiliated with the USCG?

No, License to Sail is not affiliated with the USCG or U.S. Department of Homeland Security. We are an independent study tool that uses publicly available question banks to help you prepare for your USCG exam.

How do you source your questions?

Our questions are sourced from publicly available databases and resources. In 2010, the USCG removed their question banks from the public domain; however, these historical question banks have been preserved by various sources and remain accessible. Current questions are obtained from the USCG National Maritime Center Example Tests, which are updated annually. Historical test materials are sourced from publicly available archives, including the Internet Archive.

I found a question that I think is wrong or the category doesn't seem to match.

If you believe you've found an error in a question or its categorization, you can report it directly through the app using the report button located in the top right corner of each question. Our team will review your submission and verify the issue. If validated, we will make the necessary corrections. Our database is continuously updated and improved, and we appreciate user feedback to help enhance accuracy. Please note that question categories are assigned based on our analysis and AI-assisted interpretation of how the USCG might categorize them, as the official categorization is not always publicly available.

I only see this app available for iOS, is there an Android version?

Currently, we do not offer an Android version of License to Sail. The app was built natively for iOS, which means developing an Android version would require a substantial development effort. However, we are actively working on an Android version and anticipate releasing it in 2026. In the meantime, please note that License to Sail is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. If you have access to an iPad or Mac in addition to an iPhone, you can use License to Sail on those platforms as well. You may find that purchasing an iPad along with an annual License to Sail subscription provides a cost-effective alternative compared to our competitors' pricing models.

Hey, the USCG sent me a letter of what modules to study for but I don't see the license or rating I need to study for.

We have made every effort to include comprehensive coverage of licenses, ratings, and endorsements in our study materials. If you cannot find a study option that includes all the modules recommended in your USCG letter, please contact our support team and we will assist you in finding the appropriate study materials.
